So sad to hear this news. I've know fergus for many years... My first track day was with him, Shane (ruff) and a couple of other peeps from this forum.

He was at my wedding over 10 years ago... He introduced me to sushi. I still braai on a braai he gave me when I moved into my house.

    RIP Hei Ew.

Just thought I'd pop up some memories here.

We marshalled a toy run together. This was Fergus' R1 he had for a while. I was in awe of how comfortable he was at the track on this thing as I tried in vain to follow him around Phakisa.

We had a free track weekend at Phakisa thanks to bike SA because it was Simon Fourie's birthday. We went and camped out in the pits. Hei Ew brought a pocket bike... It resulted in shenanigans in the pits and around the parking lot.

Back in the day we used to meet in alberton for a coffee stop on a Friday morning. Later Fergus and I joined the guys at renegades in dunkeld (close to the mcdonalds on Jan Smuts).
I had him follow me on my route through the edge of CBD, there was a jump I used to do on my SV650 on the one spot the road made a huge hump... he followed me on Blackies KLR that he had bought from him.

Fergus pulled in at Midvaal with his GS and came and dragged feet:

He was indeed a great guy.... I remember when he corrected my cornering and many other great moments we had during the almost 12 years I knew him..... great sense of humor...if you understood it.... I will miss you my friend... rest well.... we are safe knowing that you are now looking after us marshals.

This is very sad. Fergus was a great guy and excellent marshal, worked with him for years.

He had a great sense of humour, even when we called him Hei Wena...

A life taken too soon, rest in peace my friend, your kindness, outgoing nature and sense of humour will be a lasting legacy with those that rode with you.

I remember the first time I met you. Dude brought you along to a Cradle cycle race that we used to do before the speed humps were there. In those days Marshals were recruited by recommendation and what a winner you turned out to be. Nothing was ever too much trouble and I never once heard you complain. I have fond memories of you de - icing everyone's bike's on a frosty morning at the Fouriesberg Inn during a training run weekend.

I remember you doing the Race for Victory from Gold reef city when we were just a hand full of Marshals. Killer J, Splat, Cindy, Dude, Jill, myself and a few others. You perhaps do not realise that you were a trailbreaker, impressing the Metro at a time when were looked upon as upstarts.

Your life on earth may be over but it had meaning to more than just your family. The Think Bike family loved you and you will be sorely missed. I trust that the current Marshals can reach your high standards, you set the bar very high.

So long my friend for now, maybe one day we can ride again.

    Love, Stranger and The Goose.
