Rules, laws, logic, and common courtesy are all guidelines stuck to the undersides of toilet seats now apparently.

There was a fist fight on the N3S highway in JHB on Friday as someone didn't let the other person join that lane in bumper to bumper traffic.
They literally got out of their cars in the middle of the highway during peak time traffic to have a go at each other

Then there were bikers stopped IN the suicide lane of the highway admiring the fight club...

    Roads are a huge mess

Don't you know? It's their constitutional right to drive on the right.

You are closer to correct than you think Colin.

A few years ago, memory prevents me from stating exact year, a traffic cop in Cape Town, on the N1 drove behind a slower vehicle in the right lane. He flashed his lights to indicate his desire to overtake (the law makes provision for this). The other driver refused. After some kilometers, the cop pulled the guy over and fined him R1000.00 for inconsiderate driving. This, well within the law.

The guy went to court and the magistrate found him not-guilty stating that the cop was abusing his authority. It didn't end there. The then MEC for Community Safety for the Western Cape, Robin Carlisle jumped in and made a public statement stating that the cop abused his authority. Therefore, hogging the right lane must be legal in the Western Cape.

Happened about 30 years ago. Rule in Cape Town are as follows:
Left lane for left handed people
Right lane for right handed people.

We have more right handed people in Cape Town than left handed people...

    PS Road rage is ambidextrous.

I am not the one complaining. It has worked that way, fast bikes, keep far left, up here for years.

That has now changed up here with our new 4 lane highways. We now have three left lanes for slow trucks and one right lane for everyone else.
