    Default New Rider

    Hi Guys,

My name is Stu, and I am new to road riding bikes. I am writing my learners on Friday, and am already in process to purchase my first commuter road bike. The KTM Duke 390 (starting the finance process today).

I have experience with Trials riding and that bike is a Beta Rev 3 still running the clubman/intermediate line.

Once I get my Bike, ill kick-off with a bit of training and progress to some defensive driving courses.

I plan to use the bike for commuting through residential areas and not really keen yet for highway travel. My 9km commute takes me an hour and 10 min some days... hence the need.

I have already PM'ed Stranger (as per forum recommendations) for an insurance quote and hopefully he comes back to me soon have also gotten another quote for R400+- pm for insurance.

The bike is a 2018 model with just over 1300 on the clock. So it is the nice new facelift version.

I have read that the older models had some reports of issues with the cooling system, I presume KTM has resolved those issues.

I look forward to joining in the fun on the forum!

    Stu

    Hi Stu,

Welcome! That sounds great, I'm also new and the process was near as
    much fun as the action.

It would be nice to know where in Gauteng you are, I'd consider a
    meet quite lucky.

I've done some training, I was asked to do about 2/3000KM on my own
before something more intermediate. I don't commute, so it's easy
going. I definitely need to ride more and the training is great,
    good stuff.

Thanks guys. So went to the dealer, handed in my app. Perved over the duke a bit more. Now all is resting on my learners. Any tips? (no bribes guys) bug have been studying. Pre-approval will come tomorrow, and hopefully should the stars align, I'll have my bike on Saturday after a legal test ride on Friday (won't buy until I have test ridden). But still super excited. Already identified my safety kit and my wife today says "you must buy an orange helmet with an orange jacket to match". Man I love my wife! Just sad I'm selling the FJ Cruiser.

The chose capacity is ideal for the application. You can shed some weight now that you not munching on in traffic. The extra 4 hours a week you save on commuting can be spent lifting weights or doing some gardening!

Nail the learners, and quickly plan to do the full license for cheaper insurance premiums.

Thanks! And to talk direct to the weight sector of the above, yes I am shedding weight. Begin Jan I was 105kg, and going to gym every weekday, eating healthy I am down to 98 and declining.

And yes Indeed I plan a lesson or two (yard test over and above my other planned,) I intend to do my full licence asap. Esp given the ever nearing emigration and licence conversion which will help when moving to the EU.

Awesome when TiC is received. Even better when it has such reflections. Keep up the healthier option. One of the real advantages of biking is not munching - unless you ride an NC with that massive cooler box in front of the rider!!!

    Welcome and congratulations on passing!

Replied on your other post about the Duke 390.

And also, do the training through respected/well-known training groups that give out certificates, it will help with insurance premiums a bit.
