    Default Detuned 101

Time and again around the fuel pump I hear guys speak of "a detuned model" and this has me wondering.
When we say Bike X is a detuned version of Bike R, what does that mean? Is there the basics of detuning, or does each manufacturer define the detune? I'm certain detuning goes beyond the plastics, stickers and zaust.

Detuning can be done in a few ways.

ECU detuning (a "restricted" map can be loaded). A simple remap can put it back to "full power".
Motor detuning. Lower lift or duration cams (or a combination of both), smaller throttle bodies/carbs, lower compression ratio, etc. Sometimes a combination of all these.
