I will rather not say anything else on this matter because I WILL get banned from this forum forever if I do.

I will say this though: you do not need religion to be a good person or to have morals. All you need is empathy and common sense.

TJO.....this was an invite to a ride for a good reason.......PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY. It has NOTHING to do with AB.

If you guys don't want to join then don't, but when I see what bikes you guys ride (Skully - Aprillia, Rehan and Rocketbooster - Triumph) then I can understand why you made the comments you made.

You can see what we ride? Even without your brights?

    It's a miracle!

Even without the brights, my Aprilia is a pretty pleasing shade of nuclear yellow that can be seen from orbit

If I may be so bold as to make an assumption as to Skully's beliefs... I think he very neatly and quite diplomatically stated his opinion (and elucidated his own philosophy if I read him right) and sidestepped the thin ice without giving anyone reason to feel personally insulted.

It helps to remember that not everyone is a christian, or even religious for that matter. I am personally rather hostile to organised religion in all its forms. Bit of an understatement really.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that, while I understand and appreciate why most forums have a blanket ban on religious and political discussion, the reality is that as an atheist, I am bombarded with subtle forms of proselytisation all the time. How often do we not see "God was looking out for me that day" or stuff like that. As if God is on vacation the rest of the time when people die on the roads. Or that praying for a biker down will somehow enhance the scientific medical treatment he or she is receiving.

The fact of the matter is that there is a disjoint between how believers are allowed to express themselves vs how nonbelievers can. For example, if person X says "God did this or that" and person Y says "God did nothing at all here", then person Y is guilty of causing offense but not person X. The atheists among us will know exactly what I mean. Sadly, while the argument that banning religious topics on grounds that it caused discord has some merit, the fact that it causes discord is precisely because of the above disjoint. Atheists' right to freedom of expression takes a back seat to believers' sense of entitlement to not have their beliefs questioned. It's a subtly tyranny of the majority.

At the end of the day you just sort of shake your head when you read silly things and bit your tongue. As for Angus Buchan, he's low hanging fruit, a bit like Trump really, a sanctimonious, chauvinistic, risible charlatan who is making millions by taking advantage of anachronistic prejudices and biases, like every other evangelist before him.

Skully did very well by being pithy.
    Very nicely expressed.

And Trevelle, if prayer works, why aren't you doing it anyway? Why do you need to ride to Bloemfontein?

To be fair, you did mention him in your op so it didn't appear to have NOTHING to do with him

Knowing Trevelle over the years and how he lives his life and contributes to TB and the Marshalling group in particular I can offer the following.

Great bloke. Will never let you down. Rides great bikes and rides them well. Never pushes his beliefs upon anyone. He works hard for his family. His house is open 24/7 if needed. He will give you his rain jacket in a storm. The only down side is he sold his grand daughter Mini!
Edit addition: A gentleman and respecter of all women.

PS He does like a bit of a poke and a slow stir at times.

My take on this: A whole bunch of bikers ride out together to meet similar minded bikers and 'normal citizens' to offer their prayer towards the country and its current pathetic situation. They will as individuals feel better and possibly more proactive about change in SA and a future for all (women too). It is not about a bloke who grows potatoes or a niche religious organisation at all. Most of the time is spent riding with mates...

    Am I religious: Yes
    Do I pontificate it: No
Do I accept all other beliefs: Yes (except The Raving Looney Party in the UK)
Will I discuss it with you: Most probably not
Similar to Mnr B.M.W. Brightlight-Trevelle although he can been a bit looney at times.

He would have mentioned AB in the OP as to give clarity to where they were going.
All my posts are my opinion and not those of TB or TB Marshals or any other sane human

Yes, not about me.....and neither about Angus Buchan which I stated earlier.......you hijacked the thread.
its about like minded people meeting to pray for SA, and if you are not one of those, then don't come, why turn the thread into a religious debate..?

Well, I do think you deserve an apology for the hijack.

That being said, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, and the opportunity to bash Angus makes up for it!

Apology accepted, but I would suggest that if you want to bash Angus, or anyone else for that matter, that you do it face to face with them, so that they can defend themselves, and not on a forum like this.

I doubt Angus would have the minerals for a debate.
