    Default Boots and all

I got my bike at the start of winter so i have been using 'long boots' that cover the shin area since then. it's now getting very warm and summer is around the corner. Do you guys change to a shoe type boot (shorty) due to the heat or do you still where long boots. are there any long 'vented' boots on the market. what do you do to stay comfortable in the heat and not sweat at the feet, so much. No funnies i know where you live.

    these are my winter boots

But if it rains, I prefer these

In summer when it get really hot here, then I prefer to wear these

    Stick to the long boots.

Just like AMZ and Az said. Seriously.

Absolutely agree with everybody giving you advice.

Commonest injury falling off bike = fractured ankle.

And not just any boot. Grip the boot from underneath with one hand and try and bend the top over left and right with the other. If you can bend it over, this is exactly what is going to happen to your ankle.

It goes without saying that you can't even perform this test on anything shorter than a full length boot.

Amazing how few people get this.

Staying with boots, what bike shops are there in the Centurion area, and surrounds, that I can look for a new pair?

This is a nice thread and question. Last year with the Springbok rally... with lots of bikers, I decided on, lets call it a survey.

I found that 90% of riders, only wear gloves, jacket and helmet, with regular jeans and tekkies. Very few, had complete riding gear. 1 out of 10 would have proper riding boots. Most, not all, Harley riders would ride with a pispot and under jacket, full of badges, with hardly any proper safety gear. I found most lady pillions wore fashion boots with tights for pants and maybe a riding jacket with hands tucked in the riders pockets...

These are the realities. Attending a riding course and people attending was asked to wear full ATTGAT, one person in the entire group was properly dressed for the fall. Not me... I was one.. or is one as described in the paragraph above. Maybe some excuse for it... whatever...

I think it was Colleen the posted a very appropriate thread to the subject... search for the thread... Sweat or Bleed.

In Centurion: Centurion Yamaha, Bavarian or Ultimate Performance.

But in all honesty, do yourself a favour and go visit Moto Mate in Rivonia (same centre as Barnyard Theatre).

I was also thinking about summer boots.

    How about something like this:

    http://firstgear-usa.com/mens-gear/b...-hi-boots.html

Full length, no waterproof membrane, and perforated leather to let some air in.

Does look like a touring boot, and not a race boot. Does that necessarily mean less protection?

I wear Vegas which are very comfortable in Winter and Summer...don't really notice that my feet get hot so maybe I am cold blooded...
All The Gear All The Time if you can afford to but you can make things a little bit more comfortable for yourself if you have a bit of cash to splash for airflow jackets and what have you...
Just don't get me started on the protective riding pants situation...

Legs break just as easily in the summer heat as they do in the cold of winter.
I took a spill about a month ago, at a very low speed. And as I lay there on the road, unhurt, with the full weight of my bike on my lower left leg, I thought "Thank f*k I'm wearing decent boots."
I reckon that if I'd been wearing shorty boots I would probably have broken something.
I then had to drag my leg out from underneath the bike.
That wouldn't have been fun in a pair of shorty boots either.

As everyone else here has already mentioned - deal with the sweaty feet rather than a broken ankle!

Graphic video... I'm sure proper full length boots would have helped here.

(Not jumping a red would have helped too)

I wore out my last pair of road boots so ended up buying a pair of very strong shorty MX boots that go above the ankle. They are very strong, have reinforced areas on both ankles and what seems to be close to a steel toe cap. Got them from FT a couple of years ago... think they cost about R600 from the clearance store.

That said they are not as good as a full and PROPER race boot but for me on par if not better than some road boots. For me the only area in which the cheaper road boots would offer a little more protection would be if the bikes exhaust is against your leg or you have an impact against the shin. From my experience (yes my experience, not necessarily anyone else's) I reckon my shorties give better twist protection.

I still have my old pair of AlpineStars RaceTec boots. Same boots as used in MotoGP and WSBK albeit a few years model ago. Has an inner bootie with an exo-skeleton inside which stops the ankle of foot extending anymore than the natural limits. And have the battle scars to prove it. Just not comfortable to wear everyday.

But as they say, you pays your money and you make your choices.
