Jumping Toll Gates - N4 Middelburg - 31 July 2016
My girlfriend and I had an incident yesterday which has left a sour taste in our mouths and I hope the bikers concerned are on this forum so that they can know and understand what they did. The incident occurred yesterday, 31 July 2016, at the Middelburg Toll Plaza after returning home from a weekend trip to Dullstroom. I am not afraid to admit that I pay toll fees if it is a toll gate (unlike E Tolls).
Whilst waiting our turn to pay, a couple on a dark blue BMW RT1200 (2012 model) tailgated the car in front of me – all cool. Then when it was our turn to pay. I get my girlfriend to go through the procedure of taking gloves off, getting out the card, paying, putting the card away, re-gloving etc so that we can speed up the process. The operator had opened the boom before we were ready but the riding companions of the RT, a couple on a light cream coloured Triumph Trophy, decided to tailgate me and pull off before I was ready and so the boom closed before I could go. The operator assumed that both these couples were with us and wanted to charge me again for their ill-discipline!!! And then the cars behind me started hooting!! After venting my irritation and displeasure with what had happened and to convince the operator that we were not riding together (which I can understand he would not happen to believe), he manually opened the boom and we were on our way.
To the 2 couples, jump toll gates all you like but stick to jumping behind cars and not bikes - cars are able to pull off immediately after payment, unlike bikes!!
