Look at the AA's website. They have the info there on all the roadworks. Good luck with the traveling, is there a small space for me??

The N1 is generally in a good condition, although I haven't ridden it in about a year. There will always be stop/go's. See them as a leg stretch opportunity.

Best is to avoid the N1 altogether!
Take an extra 2 days and take the scenic route - so many beautiful unexplored roads...
    Everybody crashes.
Some get back on and ride again.
    Some don't.
    Some can't.

Best ride to CT I ever had was with my son on his Bajaj 180. 2000kms in 4 days on all the back roads we could find. N road time was maybe 10% of the trip. Bliss

My in-laws drove down from Mpumalanga on Tuesday, only stop&go they got was at De Doorns.

Jip. But it does change almost daily as the road maintenance crews move around.

There are many camera's all the way, and the traffics hide well, even sitting in ditches and in deeep rock cut-outs. Beaufort West has overhead camera's that monitor your average speed. When I went through a few months ago there were roadworks near the weighbridge. Beaufort West also has a few manual camera's.

I have never, in the last 25yrs, passed through Beaufort West without encountering either a camera of sorts or a road block.

Consider Meirings-poort between Beaufortwes to Oudtshoorn. Every soul search ride should meander through it plus there's an amazing waterfall before you get to the other side. Take lots pics!

Night riding and early morning morning on the road from B/west to Meiringspoort is extremely dangerous with animals on the road. They tend to shy away from the road during the day, but still cross occasionally. If you have to do it then, scan for the reflection in their eye's, although the last time I went through there they did not look in my direction. If you do that route at night, you will obviously miss the awesome views. So many awsome bike routes in the Southern and Western Cape.
    Enjoy the ride.

To ride through Meiringspoort at night is a sin against your spirit

if youre going for pleasure, go down to DBN then follow the coast. Some gorgeous routes that way.

better than running through the flat state province.

Outside Bloem roadworks for about 30 kays, then as mentioned earlier couple of stop and goes between Colesburg and Beaufort if I remember correctly. Otherwise all good
