Default Why is it so freaking hard to get decent bike insurance?

I am looking for good insurance for the Tiger 1050, my current insurance doesnt do business use or track days and only some of my extras.

I have asked around spoken to a few people, tried the various reccomendations etc, received the quotes blah blah blah.

firstly, no brokers wants to actually spend time with me, to discuss the cover etc ( am happy to move the 3 cars and household as well)

cant even get them on the phone unless I make the call.

dont tell you the pitfalls untill way into the email conversation like, has to be in a garage when it was stated in email 1 there isnt one, like extras coivered cant exceed 30% of bike value

like track days are not covered

business use is not covered (not commuting, actually going to customers)

so for any brokers out there...

2007 Triumph Tiger 1050, no garage, but kept under a cover, under a carport, behind locked gates, full business use & track day cover, with the following extras valued at around R43k

    Centre stand
    Crash bars
    Crash Bobbins
    Radiator Guard
    Heated grips
    Hand Guards
    Arrow exhaust pipe
    Full Givi pannier set
    Spotlights
    Garmin Zumo 350 +Stand, +maps (doesn’t come with maps)

just finished with a broker with the quicksure product, premiums were good, but limited cover for extras, so they want to specifiy particular extras like the panniers and gps and that then takes the premium into the expensive realm.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is business use specifically?

as I understand it, it is using the vehicle to visit clients all over, all day as opposed to commuting to a fixed office.

Oh okay, makes sense I guess.
I didn't even realise that was a thing, I've always just insured my bikes as my main mode of transport and not been asked whether I am seeing clients etc.
    Goodluck!

Not sure about track days or business use but u can try Deon Joubert at TuffStuff - deon@tuffstuff.co.za

They specialise in 4x4 insurance but after the service and pricing I got from them I moved everything to them including my bike

They have been very accomadating - when I got my bike the license had expired and they even covered me before I got the new disc, with only the receipt from the licensing dept... Not sure if that's standard but I appreciated it

    Hay man,

For trackday cover you can give Neil at Amacus. This guy is on the VW forum and we use them when we need track cover and he's also a biker so give him a try.

    Hope it helps.

I used Sceptre for a while till the company I work for got bought by Santam, and I moved all my insurance to them because of staff discounts.

Sceptre insured my bike and ATGATT and were pretty helpful and efficient. They were happy to cover me for track days as long as I notified them before I went to the track.

Anybody here used Santam? Are they any good or full of nonsense when it comes to making a claim for bikes? All my other insurance is with them so logic would dictate I insure with them.

I have only been with them for a little over 2 months, and not needed to claim for anything.

My in laws however have made several household and motor vehicle claims, each time without a single problem. Not for a bike though, so I can't tell you about that, but their track record so far is favorable.

Yeah I've never experienced any problems with them but all my claims have been car related so I guess I'll get the same kind of service when it comes to a bike.

I am with Quicksure and the premiums are pretty good. RT is R258 at a value of R75k and the Tuono R245 for a value of R55k.

States that if the bike is not in a garage that it must be behind a locked gate and "chained to a fixed object" whatever that means....... Don't insure my Tuono for track days as it hasn't seen decent tarmac since November last year

Still not sure of the excesses as I have contradicting documents. One says R3000 and the other says R2500 minimum or 10% of value etc etc.
    Dunslop lover....
