    Default Petition to save Killarney

    http://savekillarney.com

Many people are not aware that there is complaints being lodged against the Killarney Race Track which is endangering the track and creating a rift in the Motor Racing world of the Western Cape. Where many other provinces are getting new race tracks and upgraded venues we are on the brink of loosing ours.
Why is there a petition to save Killarney? Simply put we as the Motorsport community would like to rally our support behind Killarney so that they have signatories on board to warrant an extension of the property lease.
If you would like to support Killarney Race Track please sign the petition.

Please spread the word among our two wheeled friends

Are those people for real in that video?

They aren't even that close to the track. I swear I have more noise coming from the N1 than these people have coming from the track.

Wait...maybe I should have them close the N1 because it's noisy.

"Killarney has been around for 53 years and has built a home for all racers, once praised for reducing street racing by having Street 2 Strip events in the evening, Killarney is now being strong armed into technicalities surrounding racing.

Some of the new reinforced rules are decibel readings which should be lower. It must be reduced dramatically.

    70db – 80dB
Noisy office or an alarm clock
    Loud

    80dB – 90dB
Electric razor, lawnmower or an vacuum cleaner
    Loud to very loud

    90dB – 100dB
Chain saw, air compressor or a jackhammer
    Very loud

The race cars should not have a DB reading more than 85db’s, in an effort Killarney has erected barriers of earth to help with the noise levels.

Without Killarney around there is no other place for avid car enthusiasts to participate in the sport and many will take to the streets, which ends very bad for everyone involved. The Sunday track days has already been cancelled, which is sad for those which looks forward to the event."

--they focus a lot on the Street2Strip events happening on Friday nights, but the same applies for ANY events - Be it stockars, Full Circuits, Half Main etc...... utter rubbish!

Yes is crazy! These idiots knew the track was there when they bought the property.... did they think it would magically dissapear overnight when they moved in?

We have the same problem with Kyalami up here (well one of the problems anyway). Is a bunch of rich estates surrounding the track who no longer like the noise.... chops!

The rust is driving me crazy. Even my tools in the garage are rusting. Please remove the salty water from the sea or even better, please relocate the sea.

The problem is not so much the noise. Yes, that is where it will begin, but as more rich people built estates around the track, eventually the value of the land will make the track worthless.

    Wot?

Wouldn't building fancy high-class estates all around the track make the value of the track MORE?
Or do you mean that the property value will be so high that it would be more lucrative for the owners to sell and build a new track elsewhere and still have a pretty penny to spare?

I used to live next to Killarney in Tableview / Parklands and very rarely did the noise get loud... What do people expect ?! they get cheap Houses and cheap rent in the area because of Killarney and Chevron Refinery but they complain... go live in Milnerton (5km down the road) where the rents are a good 3 grand more and there'll be no noise at all

I am sure, given the density of office parks and factories around Kyalami, that the income generated by racing activities is already way below what could be generated by developing the site as a commercial and industrial area. All you need is developer with deep enough pockets to buy the site outright and fund the development.

Then the current owners could use the cash to buy cheaper land and develop a good track from scratch far away from sensitive ears. That is assuming that they really have motorsport interests at heart. Sorry, the cynic surfaces now and then
