PE Brekkie runs and get togethers

Hi all PE TB'ers (and I include any visitors to our area, those from Uitenhage and of course the J Bayers )

I have started this thread for the purpose of arranging our getogethers and other TB related events. As is the norm, the thread will be hijacked and we will ALWAYS go off tangent. But if you are in the area, subscribe to this thread, so you know what is being planned.

PLEASE do not leave it up to me to arrange all the get togethers ... if you know of something interesting happening in the area, that we can all be a part of, or if you are seeking advice from our specific area, please add it here. That way we keep up to date with our little region Another thing - if you have friends / family who ride, bring them with!!

We are not EXCLUSIVE, and it does not matter whether you are on a 50cc scoot or a 1800cc crotch rocket - when we ride together, we will ride at our slowest man/lady's pace. It is all about bringing like minded bikers together under the banner of Think Bike. If you do not have a bike for whatever reason, you are still invited to join!!! All I ask is when you join us bring a sense of humour, wear the ATGATT, and have fun!!

If we can get together more often and have a big enough group together, we could possibly move forward to arranging training for the group etc.

My next post will be the two proposed routes for the brekkie run for 1st April 2012

This is a beautiful stretch of tar, with some spectacular twisties through Van Stadens Pass and into Hanky and then onto Patensie. The road conditions (when I was last out that way), is ok - there are some serious potholes going through Loerie - but avoidable. This would be a longer ride. Approximately 60 km from the N2 highway (outside Uitenhage - Van Stadens offramp).
Padlangs offers a great breakfast and traditional farmhouse fare.
Suggested meeting point for everyone - under the N2 bridge on the R102 heading towards Van Stadens Pass
Suggested meeting time - 9am

Naturally, this ride is weather dependent...

This would be our short trip option. From what I have seen on google earth, very rural roads, that seem fine. I will travel this road this weekend to check it out and report back.
The route from Cape Road to Van Stadens Mouth is a mere 16km (but not taking into account any travel from your place of residence). I have yet to find a restaurant / cafe / pub in the area for breakfast - I suppose I will report on this after my Sunday scouting ride.
Suggested meeting point: At the entrance to Draaifontein Road (there is a signpost on the R102 showing this turnoff)
Suggested meeting time: 9am

if u guys do take the bhb-van stadens road,be careful on the twisties
lotsa chops in 4X4's dont see the middle line so lekka so they go mansel on us!

Option 1 because of the twisties!

Might even take a ride with a friend later on Sunday too. Option 2 seems a good short run. Good practice for the longer run next week.

Agree with Tao - Option 1 is longer and I think the N2 is a wider stretch of road than the road to Van Stadens.

@Swallow - I've only ever been on that road in a cage and I haven't driven that way in a loooooong time but what I can tell you is that there are some pretty steep up- and downhills. Also, when you coming down the last hill it might be a good idea take it slow because the boom / entrance of the mouth area is just around a sharpish corner, if memory serves me correctly. So it might catch you by surprise if you're not expecting it.

I wouldn't say the road is "rural" (I've seen some pretty rural roads that I don't think should be called roads haha) but it is a narrow road - there's no shoulder. Aaaaaand that's my 2c.

As for Option 2, that is a road that I am planning to riding some day. JM recommended it a while back, but also warned that the 4x4's in the area don't understand the concept of lanes. I assume that the road similar to the M9 near the Maitland reserve? It is a rather short run though.

We'll take care through all the twisties... Tao has a love for Van Stadens ... Tao, you and Skidmark need to stay upright
I prefer the non-Highway roads, simply because we have so many different types of bikes, and NORMALLY there is far less traffic on the side roads
The pass going into Hanky can be a little daunting, it is a steep downhill with twisties, but we will ride at the pace that everyone is comfortable with.
