Bike saved my Life

You might not believe it but being on my bike yesterday saved my life.

Traveling in a southerly direction on the R63 about 40km from King William`s Town I was riding on the left side of the road. Cresting a ridge there were 2 vehicles, a new Nissan in front and behind it a car, overtaking on a Blind Rise AND on the wrong side of the white line from the front. Had I been in a cage I would have been pulverised. The people were traveling a great speed. They overtook about 5 cars and a truck in one shot.

Eish!!! Just glad you are okay mate!!. Could have been very different. Sometimes yes the bike is safer then the cage

When approaching a blind rise on a road, I ALWAYS move to the left side of the lane I am traveling in.

Could have been ever so nasty ..... but as Clock says;

Ducatti when ChritoE was in hospital, he was in a 4 bed ward.

ALL four beds had bikers in! HOWEVER, the one biker was in his car when he was involved in a head on accident. On his bike he would have been able to avoid it. This gent spent about 3 or months in hospital - totally "pulvarised". The other bikers were all out in 2 or 3 weeks .....

go figure .....

Glad to hear you are ok. Similar thing happened a couple of months ago on a breakfast run and if I was not to the left it would have been a head on collision. Good advice Clock. Stay safe out there!

Clock Baie goeie advies wat jy hier gegee het,soos ek ook al die jare doen.ek hoop net dat al die jong bikers, en persone wat begin motorfiets ry dit lees.
Ducati bly om te hoor jy het niks oorgekom nie.al ry ek al vir oor die 30 jaar motorfiets leer ek nog steeds hier op die site.THINK BIKE IS TOPS.

Always, always, ALWAYS approach a blind rise from a position of being able to handle ANY emergency!! The main thing is speed. At Kyalami you won't have vehicles approaching you, so on the public road SLOW down, unless you want to prove how human your body is!

The thing is, there could be a bloody big truck / minibus taxi parked in the road on a blind rise, so even moving left is meaningless if your speed is too high to stop quickly. Be prepared for anything.

Always move leftish, but be prepared for anything! Thanks, guys for posting this.

In a car or van you sometimes have to just brace yourself for the impact if some idiot is coming towards you on your side of the road and does not look like hes gonna stop in time,on a bike you can dodge him.

What really bugs me is having to sit waiting at every other green traffic light, waiting for the Brain Deads to go through the Red Light, because in their opinion, they are "Entitled to, because it was almost still green when they were approaching the intersection." :evil:

Ek was die naweek naby DM en KM gewees, net verby Vaal Marina. Het woonwa gesleep en ons was omtrent 6 voertuie wat agter 'n groot SPAR trok vasgehaak het. Sal daar waragtig 'n idiiot met 'n Mazda 2 hierdie trein verbygaan op 'n opdraand, teen 'n sperstreep en op 'n draai! Vark het dit net-net gemaak, maar ek wonder of hy besef hoeveel mense se lewens hy in gevaar gestel het.

Ding is hul besef dit nie... tot hul self dinge's droogmaak en dan wonder hul nog hoe dit gehappen het. Ek wens net hul wil besef dit lewe is so kort, soos ek dit saterdag self beleef het toe ek op 'n toneel afgekom het op die N1 suid net buite Pretoria. As jy iemand in 'n kar sien (een van 5 en volgens die koerante een van 3 karre) en jy sien mense wat iemand help en dan net ophou help en in trane uitbars.... dan besef jy hoe kort die lewe is.

To the familie and friends of this person who's life ended so tragically on Saterday afternoon around 4:30... you are in my prayers.
