Default Kya Sands - Malibongwe and River Road

Eish, came into work today and on the way see this GSXR750 on fire in the middle of the intersection and the guy on the side being sprayed with a fire extinguisher. He has 3rd degree burns to his entrie lower body.

Heres what happened, Bike coming from harties, bike has right of way, Truck (Mazista tiles) turns in front of bike, bike t-bones truck, bike fuel line ruptures or tank pops (not sure which), and the oke is covered in juice and on fire! Bystanders drag biker away and one of them runs for extiguisher. they rip his jacket off but His jeans (Not biker jeans I think) are melting onto him. Theere is nothing left of his jeans and hid legs are raw. We are standing around waiting for medical assitance to arrive.
All this time his bike is blazing in the middle of the road. 20 to 35 minutes after the accident, the ER24 shows up and does their thing. Fire truck shows up and puts out the bike. 15 mins later Metro shows up.
While ER24 are busy he goes into shock and they call for helicopter evac.
We contacted his mother and she shows up and does neccesary business with emercency services.

It has been a bad crash, Spent half the time shouting at the rubberneckers, directing traffic and helping emergency services prepare for heli landing. What a day. Biker was flown to Olivedale I think, but there was talk of him having to be moved elsewhere...

He has no discernible fractures, but has 3rd degree burns to about 60% of his body. 45% of the bike was molten metal on the road. I have no further words do describe this.

    I wish him strength.

Damn, really nasty one. Well wishes and positive energy going to the rider

I think one of the main burn and trauma units is in Milpark hospital.

Eish... the pain he must be going through I don't even want to imagine

We have not launched officially, but if anyone knows who this person is or knows the family, please can you contact me? I'd like to offer the support of the support/ counseling team.

    Man pinned under burning bike
    06/04/2008 14:23 - (SA)

Johannesburg - A man is in a critical condition after he was pinned down under his burning motorcycle at Kya Sands, Johannesburg, on Sunday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived at River Street and Malibongwe Drive where the accident occurred, they found the man in his early 20s, with burns to more than half of his body at 10:00.

"It is understood that the man's bike and a flatbed truck, transporting tiles, collided with each other at the intersection."

According to bystanders at the scene, the bike caught alight and pinned the man underneath it a few metres away from the truck, said Vermaak.

He said another driver who saw the incident ran and pulled the burning bike off him and extinguished the flames.

The motorcyclist was severely burnt and put on advanced life support and stabilised before being airlifted to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

The cause of the accident would be investigated.

Cowgirl - I didnt call his mom, the guy with the extiguisher did. So I havent got any contact details. Perhaps ER24 would be able to assist.
I only remember talking to his mom and her telling me he had just celebrated his 23rd in the week.
