Clive has 22 rooms just waiting for us to fill them. If you have not been to the Highlands yet, you just have to make a plan for this one. Looking to do it sometime in October. Shout if you fancy this one. No need to book or pay just yet, we just need to see if there is enough interest for a group ride.

I have been to this area a few times and have found the best place to stay is the Fouriesburg country inn. Clive is the owner there.

Got this reply from him this morning

Thank you for the enquiry. We are fully booked for 13 & 14 October. The other weekends are still available. The hotel has 22 rooms, of which 6 are single and the others double or twin rooms, plus the Sandstone Houses on the premisses and accross the street. That gives 8 more doubles.

The rate for dinner, bed & breakfast is R265 p.p. sharing. The first 6 singles are at he same rate. Thereafter there is a single supplement of R150. (A single in a double room)
We look forward to hear from you and to be of service. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

I think this is great value for money and we should seriously look at a date before he gets booked up. The last beemer run I did was full to the rafters. If I read it right there is space for 30, at those prices we should manage to suit every ones budget. If we get a large group we can organise a fast run and a slower one. There is a cosy pub there with a big screen and a pool table. There is plenty to see in the area and I can take you to a couple of tourist spots.

The rate for dinner, bed & breakfast is R265 p.p. sharing. The first 6 singles are at the same rate. Thereafter there is a single supplement of R150. (A single in a double room) Couples therefore R530.00

As it is in Oct and things may change a R100.00 deposit should be fine. Fax me the deposit slips also as I keep records who paid first and so on. If you are a single and are outside of the first six, I will fight for the same rate for you.

leave Sat morning from the blockhouse at 8:00, one night only. Same route back as a group or make your own way.

When we used to do the Halfway Ride to Clarens, some of the JHB guys with GS type skutas used to do a lot of dirt roads. If I remember correctly, one of the dirt roads goes through Kestell and comes out on the Harrismith side of Golden Gate.

But as far as I know, there is a fair amount of dirt roads in the area.

If there's a call for lot's of gear, she can always take the KIA.

Of course, if Drix' SV is gone before then and not replaced . . . then maybe she'll go in the car too ;-)

dave

I am booked and paid up as are Graham & Dawn Gadd (JAB Natal)........

I will see if I can find a few more hooligans from Durban side. Most people say they are going up there the next weekend for the Rhino and that two weekends in a row is a bit heavy for their budgets, but let me see what I can do..............

I am not going to the Rhino, in fact, I am not comfortable going to any rally where the expected behaviour is such that they have to put up CCTV to monitor for bike thefts and other crimes................

We were at the Hippo Rally this weekend which is one of the bigger KZN rallies (as far as I know they had around 2500 people through the gate) and it was an incident free weekend with one exception................some guys came in with fake wrist bands.......but they do themselves in, in any case, cause they were not in the draw for the bike..................an ER650n that was won by some 16yr old laaitie............life just aint fair............I had already made space in my garage for that bike, oh well, will have to try again next year............

Stranger
27-09-2006, 08:03 AM
Rally's are not my favourite, I do like my weekends away though and this type of run is what I like. No pressure, plenty of time with no real agenda at the end other than spending time with some good friends. Closer to the time Dave we will see if our timetables will allows us to meet up before we get to the Highlans. We do plan a photo shoot with all the guy's and we want to include you and your group as well. You can easily spend 2 hours in the park, the scenery is stunning.

I am in two minds about which bike to take for this trip........

The BMW is lekker for the long road but the Kawa is great on the twistys................and there are lekker twistys on this trip.............

If I havent made up my mind by 20th, I'll flip a coin.... :)

No, no suprises,

meet at the Blockhouse on the R59 between 7:15 and 7:30. We will take to the back roads straight away through to Dennysville and Oranjaville to Frankfort where will get a coffee and refuel. R26 to Tweeling and Reitz and through Kestell. We will meet up with JAB at the crossroad of R57 and R712. Proceed to the Highlands Golden Gate park. This should be between 12:00-12:30. We exit the park after siteseeing and photos and go to Clarens where we will have a break and possibly lunch. On to Fouriesburg, park bikes, get rooms, get beer, get happy.

Please PM me your cell no's as between Dave and Myself we will compile a list. Thanks

... through to Dennysville and Oranjaville

I did that route last year and it wasn't too pleasant with road conditions varying. Perhaps consider doing the route via Vaaldam through to Villiers and then trek souf... just a thought ;)

Spoke to F.C.I. ( thas what I smaak about this new SA, we can use lekker acronyms)........anyway, Fouriesburg Country Inn (FCI) says only one room left so either there are lank names missing from the roll call or their booking is confused.................I was going into a single room by myself, but it looks like the cruise control wants to come with and so I am going to have to take the last room left (a double) and leave the one single as being the last room left, will know tomorrow what the story is...........

..............it also turns out that I have fandamily in the area who have a B&B in Fouriesburg somewhere called Sandstone City..............apparently they do the whole Quad Trip thing................if I get a gap on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, I wanna try look them up and see wats the situation there..................

..........so, anyone have any idea of how many biker mongrels we will be alltogether? we are 5 (possibly 6) from Debbin side............

Thanks Guy's we had a great time which is what it is all about. Debbin guy's, what a fun bunch, ride and party with you any time. Really nice meeting you guy's, great attitudes. Well done to the ladies that rode 1000 km round trip, sometimes against the wind. The food was good, the ride was good, the Highlands were stunning, especially that wild animal we saw in the bush on top of the mountain. The company was fantastic.

OK where do you want to go next??
