View Full Version : Anyone fancy a winter overnighter

Stranger

I know of a nice little place in the Marico, traditional food and can maybe organise a Mampoer tour. Short run via Magalies and Koster, suit the smaller bikes too and as it's winter it would be a late start, probably 8:30 for 9:00. Let me know if anyone fancies and I will organise prices and dates.

I am all ears.
The Buell likes short runs, the rider like mampoer :D

Stranger

It's not a big place, but very nice, can maybe squeeze 20 guys. Total run there, maybe 350 ks with stops in Magalies and Koster for hot chocolate and refuels. Good roads nothing too technical, plenty room to open up if you want. Will suit slower guys too.

Yeah Skinny Right, I can and did read your last ride report. I will lend you my daughters 125 scooter at least then you can ride a slow bike fast. Or better still go borrow a BIG BOY and really show us some skills.

Better still if it is really cold I will make my secret recipe Gluwhein.

Sheesh, you have to book stuff early these days. Have spoken to my contact and the earliest I can get is the 5th of august for a block booking. There is room for 10 couples or singles can share. Will post prices as soon as they arrive. We are looking at bed and breakfast and a traditional braai supper and a MAMPOER tour.

OK guy's here are the prices. We will need to book so let me know. I will do all the going and return route planning and will organise leaders and TEC. All you have to do is commit to the ride, so why not go against TB tradition and let me know today. PS I will also organise Gluwhein. :p

If Drix has learners at least, she can ride her own bike.

Otherwise pillion, but maybe even better . . . will twist her arm to drive backup for us in the 4x4 . . . so we've got somewhere / someone to cart all our "other stuff" with. :)

OK:

From the North we will meet you at the garage at the corner of Northumberland and Hans Strydom. Witkopen eventually becomes Northumberland. If you come from the Beyers Naude side, Northumberland goes past Northgate and the Dome. 7:30 and we leave when we are all there.

The South Guys will leave from my place at 7:00 and look to meet up with the North guys at 7:30

We will take the Kromdraii road and from there to Magalies where will stop for a leg stretch and smoke break. From there to Koster where we will stop and re fuel. Bikes and people. Koster to Swartruggens and from there to the Marico interior.

The itinary will be, arrive and your rooms will be allocated, dump panniers and luggage. We will then go on the Mampoer tour inclusive of a light lunch. Back at the B&B we can lounge around the Lapa and generally socialise, I will make Gluwhein, the braai will be done for us and will take us to bedtime. Breakfast all together in the morning, time to be agreed and then the same route in reverse to Magalies for those who want to ride back together.
Any questions let me know.

The weather looks good and remember that this trip is planned on short stretches.

Northumberland to Magalies, we can stop at the Wimpy if you want. Magalies, through Derby to Koster. Planned stop for refuel and breakfast. Koster to Swartruggens where we re group again and then we take the Lindleyspoort road through Pella. I have planned plenty of time so we can take it easy if the weather is adverse. The guy's who go fast can wait a little longer at the re groups.

Ok seeing as we adopted the Mist routine on Sunday morning, and dissapeared with the sun, WHAT THE HELL HAPPEND to Hawks bike? Sounds like the real stories only begun on the sunday morning on the way back.

Must admit, GLAD YOUR AROUND HAWK, take it easy (canvas is good for painting or so the artists say)

Jo - Take care, and cant you ensure that there is another litter "oversight" on the CPI, to ensure that Hawk can get the pmt on the back tyre and seat sorted.

Take care, looks like today is going to be the only working day in my WEEK ... whoo hoo... Spingbok here i come...

Jmass: Thanks for the tip the GT was cruising (hawk will be glad to know that i wont be drifting no more)

Take care all...

It is often said that it is not where you are that counts but who you spend the time with.

Where else can you get a group of people that hardly no each other and have a really great time. The roads were great, except I still cannot find that shortcut, maybe I am not meant to.

Every one rode really well and well done to Drika for making it all the way and back.

Hawk don,t feel bad. I know that this was just your way of getting to spend more time with Skinny.

Skinny, THANK YOU

And for the guy's who picked me up out of the bush, cheers.

Remember, Johan's mampoer does not go down, it goes up.

Am I right in assuming that you were fined just when one enters Groot Marico (at the intersection (ok the one and only) where the mampoer tasting session started)? Luckily Joe saw them and adjusted the throttle accordingly ;)

Yep, those are the ones that got us all into trouble. Can any one actually remember what I fined you for. I know I fined myself for nearly leaving Skinny behind and then I fined Skinny for being late and then I fined big G and his wife for thinking that they were lost, after that, you got to fill in the blanks. Jmas you were still sober then, what happened?

Mmmm we got fined for "apparently" taking too long to "unpack" before departure on the M tour. Ok but then again NO ONE said what time we should regroup so that we can measure how much time we have to do what we had to do!!!!!! And that was soooooo innocent - trying to watch - in 10 mins how the Boks screwed up a couple of potential scoring attempts ....

Interesting choice of words (in retrospect)

[PREACHER MODE ON]

Hawk... just to point out the obvious ;) You were lucky and hopefully others will learn from this, so don't hate me for pointing this out and using you as an example.

It could of cost you a lot of money had things gone wrong. You could've gotten hurt and/or broken your bike. Your insurance would not cover you if your tyre looked like that.

1 question how cold is it going to be cos i cant get the forcast??? as long as there is no rain i should be fine ( i really should get that back tyre soon)

Moral of the story: Guys, please make sure your bike is in good condition to do the long trips.... for your benefit and those of others.

[PREACHER MODE OFF]

not a problem dc but u see before i left i still had a bit of a groove in the back so i thought (my mistake) that the tyre would handle the trip.
