23-11-2012, 09:18 AM
Dear Friends, As you may be aware, South Africa will be sending a team to this year’s GS Trophy being hosted in Chile and Argentina next week.

The organisers have placed increasing importance on the value of interest generated in the various teams home countries. In 2010 team SA were placed second to the British by a single point. Help us this year to gain a few extra points by supporting us in the following ways:

- Join and catch our daily activities on our Facebook Group page found at http://www.facebook.com/groups/Tertius/. We will post daily photos, reports and where possible, a video clip or two.
- Vote for our photos (this is where the points are earned) on the www.gstrophy.com website. Direct links to the actual picture will be found on our Facebook Group page. We will also prompt you by email with the location of the exact image when the photos are available for voting.

Looking forward to your support. Go Team South Africa. Yours in Motorcycling, The GS Trophy TeamHein Kumm, Colin Gallop, Bruce McDonald and Wayne Phillips

Please TB'ers, let's support these South Africans as well as we possibly can!

Tertius du Plessis29 November*22:51Wayne: "Tertius please can U post the following for us: Its been a fairly tough but extremely enjoyable week so far for us. Communications remain a challenge with only the ability to communicate via sms. Day 1 only had one challenge which was. Trials course through a forest of the local trees. Only 2 riders were allowed to participate and so colin and Hein gave it a go. The rest of the day was spend riding Chile and crossing over into Argentina. Day 2 we were given a real treat with a 15kms white water rafting. There were 2 challenges emanating from that.. A timed race to put the boat into the water with all crew and equipment, and second having to take it out. The third challenge was a timed ride through a mud hole and up a steep embankment.. The other team members were allowed to assist. Some guys flew up the hill and other battled quite a lot.*Day 3 was a ride into Pategonia... Dust, dust and more ... Well you guessed it dust. The challenges were very physically enduring with the team having to push a bike through one river and back over another route for one challenge and using another river pushing it one way. The next involved lifting all 3 bikes over a monster tree trunk. Tomm Wolff told Hein that he is not allowed throw the bikes one handed, and had to use the rest of the teams support.Day 4 saw all 45 riders on a very very dusty motorcross track with the challenge being to complete 20 laps. Our boys did this with great ease. The last challenge for the day was a timed event to swop batteries between 2 bikes. With a bit of a shaky start our team is slowly making its way to the front. Currently sitting in 9th, the 14 points our voting fans gave us for the photo comp has certainly given us a lift.. And we are hoping to do it again with the next one.*That sums up the competition side of the event.. However this is only a very very small part of the experience.*The routes and trails that have been laid out for us is an adventure riders wet dream:D. Sandy trails, sweeping tar passes, tight forest runs and so on and so on. We have gone through more twisties and around more corners than most people do in a year. We have ridden on every imaginable type of surface, dry sand, wet sand, dry forests, wet forests. Pebble stoney roads both dry and wet. Hard pack and fesh fesh gravel passes.*At all times we are surrounded by the Andies.Jan 'Staal' is one of the marshals and he said thattoday*was his best riding day.. He had the Brazilians and Japanese. It rained for most of the 250kms plus that we travelled on gravel through the most breath taking forest roads I've yet to experience.*Most of the riding can be compared to riding Baviaans kloof, Die Hell, the Karoo, and the mountain ranges of the Southern Cape... All within the backdrop of the Swiss Alps and lakes..The boys and girls from Germany have really put on a special event, which is the envy of every adventure rider on the planet.*Tonight*will be our first night of camping in the rain.. But we have stolen some shelter and will sleep dry."Regards, Wayne. GO TEAM SA!!!(Note: This was 15 individual Sms'e received from Wayne @*23:00*tonight!) Special, hot of the press! THANKS WAYNE!
