I am going to service my own bike soon. Where is the best place to get parts such as filters and brake pads? Dealers or anywhere else?

Hi village,

I am servicing my bike myself as well. (40k km service)

I bought the following:

1. Oil service kit - From BMW Dealer. This is the filter en copper crush washers

2. Spark plug. This you can buy almost anywhere.
3. Oil. From Centurion Yamaha ( They sell 15w50 Motul)
4. Air Filter. From the Dealer.
5. Break pads from almost anywhere.

I ended up buying everything from Bravaria East BMW. They even had after market break pads for R250. Was convenient for me to get everything from them. Only the oil I bought from Yamaha.

how difficult is it to do a normal oil change servive on the GS650? i'm keen, but scared i do something wrong. i service my car and did my previous bike (NXR 125) but i seem to have this mental block, especially with BMW putting everything in the WRONG place. oil at the top:? haha

please let me know if you can help explain it better : )

thanks,

It is really not difficult. Below is a detail description.

For me the most difficult part is removing and and installing the sump plug. You must be very careful here. It is very easy to strip.

I would recommend getting a torque wrench,
