I never want to post bad news. . . .

This afternoon at close to 17h00 a biker passed away on this road. Eyewitness told me he clipped a truck as he went past causing him to fall. He fell right in front of another truck which ran over him costing him his life.

During the time I was there with a couple of other riders parked next to the road, only cops arrived while a paramedic was on the scene already. No ambulance during the time. I cannot say how long I stood there, can be 5 minutes, can also be 45.

The green Think Bike combi arrived 10 minutes before we kitted up, paid our respects and left.

RIP mate. . .

RIP Fernando Dos Santos Lapa

Was me in the green Caravelle...

As I left Centurion, I heard the 94.7 traffic report... Truck on fire on the N1, so I took N14 and as I took the Diepsloot turnoff, WD phoned me to tell me a bike was down and the guy wasn't moving (one of her friends passed by)...

I got back on the highway - heading to Roodepoort, and found the accident ~3km down the road.

Fernando was declared dead on the scene - severe injuries - I'm NOT going to go into details.

The EMS and Metro guys were great - so were the paramedics... handed out about 6 Think Bike cards to the authorities...

THIS CARNAGE NEEDS TO STOP !!!!!!!

I stuck about for an hour and left...

His wife and 2 or 3 kids are going to need some support - I phoned Annemie and she was at the scene with the authorities.

PM me for her number.

RIP Fernando - and strongs to the family :(

Crash, thanx for the info. I walke closer, but could clearly see Fernando was not alive. His injuries were severe, the fact that he was alive for a while is real miracle.

I ride that road daily, and this is the first bike accident I came across, was a bit of a shocker, luckily he was covered from onlookers.

Thanx again for the info, and taking the time to speak to his family.

The sad thing is at the office I hear of bloke (or their friends) with no riding experience buying superbikes. . . its not related to this accident, but one of the blokes bought a bike two weeks ago and already decked it.

I dunno. I am a bit shocked even tho I arrived a couple of minutes after the accident.

Help please !

ANY information about the accident needed...

The Metro accident investigator doesn't have any details about either of the trucks - nor eye witnesses

One of the cops on the scene chased down the 2nd truck and got details and let him go... they couldn't find the 1st truck

Please PM me with anything you have ?

Thanx

Sorry I do not have any info.
The whole time while you were there, present was a dark coloured bakkie. That bloke told me he happened in front of his eyes, that was why he was still these. Told me the details of that which I could not make out myself. . . He said he gave his details to the cops :(

Thanks YBB... I'll check out the various photos that peeps took of the scene - there was also a video taken - for training purposes...
That's helpful thanx - maybe we can get his registration# and track him down.

Can you remember more or less where he was parked ? I don't remember seeing a dark bakkie...

Agge nee man, why is there so much bad sh1t going down lately? Is it because there are more bikes on the road or what???

Please people (altho I'm preaching to the converted here) take it easy and be careful
