It is with great sadness that I pass this news on. John Surmon an icon in Cape Town biking circles passed away this morning. He will be fondly rememembered by many I am sure.

Our thoughts are with his family.

I think this was the last time I saw him ride. With his newly sponsored Rox leathers.

I assume this was shortly before his stroke. I saw him again at the 8hr and he was in a wheelchair. Good spirited as I always knew him, he found it amusing when I asked him if he planned to race it.

I saw his bike in the pits today, and I'm not sure who is riding it this weekend, but I hope there is a big tribute to one of my personal heroes.

A sad loss to the racing fraternity. A true legend!

He will be sorely missed!

The rider on the CBX No 64 in the front is non other than the legendary Jim Redman He had abroken hip and we had to help him get on to the bike
