Default Hi I'm Carpe and new to riding

Good morning I will be known as Carpe going forth

New to riding, let me say just got a HD 883 Iron

I had made sure I purchased all my riding gear months before getting a bike to ensure I am not tempted to ride without protection.

Sadly seemed to have misplaced the inserts for my jacket , the back shoulders and elbows ... so no riding until I can find new ones

But riding gear is not needed to start the bike and just enjoy the rumble which I do daily

Nice! I've been a member of TB for years, but also only recently got a bike. In my case it's a borrowed indian -made 125cc, but it's fun to ride.

Get the gear sorted soon, so we might see you on the roads!

    Ride safe

Whereabout in Gauteng are you? I'd take a look at some of the bike shops in your area. Full Throttle or a bike dealership might be able to assist, but you would probably have to go there.

Try bikerswarehouse.co.za or Motomate in Rivonia, they seem to be pretty well stocked

Hi , I actually work down the road from them, will definitely do thank you.

Any ideas if a gear shift indicator can be fitted to a 883

Do you mean a gear indicator, i.e. in which gear you are? If so, yes, it should be possible if the speedo and rev counter is electronic. Question from an old biker. Why? Any vehicle only have two gears. The right one and the wrong one. The bike will tell you in which you are, the number of said gear is not that important.

I feel it will help me so I don't have to focus so much on remembering which gear I am in as I do not have much riding experience, less brain energy needed when I drive and rather focus on external factors.

Thank you I will read the article.

I’m also a completely new rider, but personally and according to my instructor at BMW, i dont think it matters too much exactly which gear you in, you will hear and feel if the bike struggling - which would mean you’ in the wrong gear lol.

Other than that, if you’re moving forward you’re good.
