Agree with this. If the 390 was available in a "off-road" version I would've taken that as a commuter rather than the Duke, purely for getting on pavements and stuff easily

If the rumour mill is accurate, the 390 DS version is on its way.

Big Boy and Little John hits the road:

120km/h from the puppy. Not shabby.

A bit of dirt, just for the fun of it.

On their way to a "secret destination". My guess is Braam Smit from Bavarian, on the 310 is going to tackle Sani Pass or something crazy.

Some more dirt. From other pics I am guessing, somewhere between Reitz and Kestell.

No GS. No knoblies No special tricks.

Wow! Braam did 620km, of which about half was off-tar, on the G310R. Seems this puppy-Beemer can pee with the big dogs. 620 kilos in a day is a good distance, even on a big bike.BB6.jpgBB7.jpgBB8.jpg

Would be interesting what his fuel consumption is for the trip...

    Didn't know Triumph came in 4 x 4 derivatives

I quite enjoyed the information in here, thanks.
Would you agree that this would be a good commuter for the hellish N1 between Pretoria and Johannesburg? I'm really considering this as a solution (and first "real" bike).

How hard did you have to ride it to get to and stay at highway speeds? Did having to do so adversely affect the fuel consumption much?

Owning a 390 doesn’t qualify me to answer, but ride one before committing to the BMW (I’m not a hater, I own a different BMW myself).

I think it will be a great commuter.

I didn't ride it on that trip. It was Braam from Bavaria Motorcycles. If memory serves he wrote that it managed highway speed with ease and the fuel consumption was great, but I cant find the figures easily now.

Joe is right, also check the KTM 390, however there is a R310R available at Bavarian for on R63k. I doubt the KTM can compete pricewise.

Thanks. Yeah the price is pretty darn appealing!
