There is no "hatred" for all things Chinese from me. It is just that experience tells me what to buy and what not when it comes to bikes and Chinese is lowest on the list. Keep in mind you have come to a biker's forum asking for advice. You got that. I, me personally would rather do a Honda Twister.

That being said, a quick search of Hellopeter indicates that Motomia in South Africa is providing pretty good service and the specs show that the Monza is a nice enough bike, i.e. double discs in front. It looks modern and even exciting. It does look like it is using the Honda 250 engine as most Chinese small bikes use previous generation Honda and/or Yamaha engines anyway. Importantly, it carries a 2 year or 20 000km warranty which is excellent if the dealer will be around to honour the warranty (just saw Az said they will be around for some time). The 4000km service interval is better than most in its class. On the face of it, not a bad price at R18k.

So, basically you weigh to risks. The risk of how the second hand Twister was treated prior to you owning it, or the risk of owning a CHinese brand bike.

Their service may not be the best but I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon.
Are we talking about the service of the dealers of their wares?

Maybe hatred was too strong a word....pre-conception?....

While I do not believe that it is undeserved (I remember fondly fixing the rear end of my brothers Chinese bike with my belt and a plastic shopping bag to get him home after it FELL OFF...) I want to be wary of assuming that they will always be the worst...

    Being too wishful?

One thing I can bet my life on, just like the Japanese and later the Koreans, they will most certainly not always be the worst.

ok, thanks to everyone for all of the posts.

Will go weight my options as AMZ said....

Has anyone noticed how these guys (Chinese bike dealers) never have a demo bike?!?!?! or is that just my experience?

Would have liked to test the Bajaj and the Motomia

I have a 1300 Chinese car with 6 airbags, mag wheels, power steering, ABS, sound system, electric windows, park assist, etc.
It goes the same as a 1999 1300 Corolla, performance wise and is much cheaper than the entry level Toyota base model. It looks like a Telly Tubby. I bought it as I don't put much mileage on my car and don't care about the looks when I sit inside.

The Chinese bikes do not have engine troubles, their speedometers stop working and their lights go wonky on some. If you are handy, that's not a problem.

I've heard some horror stories about Big Boys, Puzeys. A Migellie losing the whole brake calipers. Those are S.A. assembled.

So, weigh your options and it is your decision.

....I was considering the Big Boy TSR250....until my dad had a look for me (Not being stuck behind a desk like me) and let me know that the MotoMia looks better (Quality wise) than the more plasticy Big Boy....

I remember my Chinese Gomoto breaking those stupid plastic indicator mounts whenever the sun hit it... but the engine never missed a beat until my friend had the inconvenience of hitting a wall that some inconsiderate soul placed in front of him...

I agree with LawMongrel, they definitely look good and it sounds like you're handy enough Ares after dealing with your Gomoto (I had a Freedom too and a lot of the same issues, ha ha) so I rate the MotoMia is a pretty good call, Amz is right on weighting things but if there is a warranty in place and a dealer network to support it which it sound slike there is, then I'd say it's a great call!

    Interesting...

I was considering the MotoMia or the Big Boy TSR 250 (Supposedly a supermoto kinda thing)...'

Good thing I decided against the Big Boy....just check out the differences in comments on Hello Peter:
