They normally get snapped up by salvagers who have relationships/contracts with the insurers. Sometimes, the owner buys it back from the insurance and will sell it on privately to you. (This is normally more expensive because the owner has to out-bid the salvagers to get the bike.)

    pros and cons?
The main problem with a scrapped bike it that it can be code 3, which is tough to sell. Sometimes, you can buy a bike which is 'uneconomical to repair' to the factory spec, and this might be your ticket for a streetfighter - it's not code 3.

how to go about it ?
Never done it myself, but I suppose an add in the BikeSA, Autotrader and Junkmail is a good start.

All depends on what you get. Bike parts are expensive, so you need to consider how big a chop you're going to do versus the number of part you will need to buy for the damaged bike.
